Basal Metabolic Pathways: Glycolysis emerged from a confluence of influences across my musical practice and my studies in integrative sciences. I’ve always been drawn to identifying patterns that recur across different systems – biological, musical, astrological and cognitive. And this project sits at the intersection of those observations.

Much of my recent musical journey has involved translating ideas across forms: transcribing licks from other instruments into my own alternate tunings, mapping them through Midi Guitar/ custom GR-55 patches, either just as partial sketches or evolving full compositions, and later refining all these through algorithmic and digital processes.

Over time, I began noticing parallels between musical tension and resolution and biochemical processes in general.

But rather than approaching this album through heavy theoretical planning, practise, notation or transcription, I chose to work intuitively, allowing grooves to emerge organically. In this sense, the music mirrors metabolism itself: a set of processes constantly unfolding in the background, largely outside conscious awareness, yet essential to motion and continuity.

Within this framework, I could see tonic centers functioning as substrates, basslines and melodic phrases act like enzymes.. catalyzing energy and propagating flow, while harmonic shifts reflect transmutation and isomerization. Suspended chords suggest reversible reactions, dominant tensions echo rate-limiting steps, and resolution arrives not as spectacle but as necessity.

This album follows the arc of glycolysis: energy investment, energy payoff, regulatory detours through the Rapoport–Luebering shunt, and finally the anaerobic resolution into lactate.. a state of survival rather than excess. These ideas later expand into broader explorations of anabolic and catabolic balance across future releases.

From a practical standpoint, the workflow itself reflects metabolic logic: starting simple bassline sketches, transferring ideas across platforms, catalyzing them through synthesis and processing, refining structure and texture, and finally integrating everything into a cohesive whole.

Basal Metabolic Pathways is an ongoing series – an exploration of cellular flow translated into groove, form, and transformation.
